Ms. Paterson's First Post.

Hello Families,

The first 3 weeks in Ms. Paterson's class have flown by!

We all arrived at school with our Schultüte and walked across the bridge to first grade.

We started the first week getting to know each other. We made passports and learned about the places that we are from and the places we have been.

We wrote about ourselves and what we liked to do.

Maths:

We have been learning about place value and have finished testing and grouping the children. We are now working with the hundreds and thousands columns!

Science:

We have been learning about categorizing animals. We have been making comparisons.

We recognized the similarities and differences between each other.
We have also been recognizing and naming the main external parts of the body in ourselves and animals.

English:

We have started out 'Word Works' program.

We have learned the vowels (long and short).

The 'x' & 'b' sound.

We have learned about writing using capitals and full stops and are currently working on 1 finger spacing & correct letter size.
We began our reading program this week and splitting the children between Ms. Burnel's class and my own, depending on their reading level.

Here are some links to the songs we have been looking at and learning.

Other:

· We welcomed a new student into our class last week!
Welcome to Freya Messow and her family. :)

· We also had to say goodbye to our German teacher Fr. Lorscheid :( but welcomed our new teacher Fr. Edinger today.

· Don't forget our BBQ on Saturday. I hope to see you all there if possible.

Also I have hung some of the children's work outside the classroom on the wall. Feel free to come up the stairs and take a peek.
