"Look Whooooo's in First Grade!"

Below are a few pictures of our first grade classroom!  I tried my very best to create a positive and fun learning environment for the students.  This year I decided on using Owls as my theme!  Throughout the year I will be displaying the student's work in the classroom. I will try my very best to upload as many pictures as possible of the students presenting their projects and assignments to the class.  Enjoy!

We have just 9 students in our class.  By putting the desks in an open circle all students are able to see the whiteboard, and I am able to stand in the middle of the circle and help the children.

These three bulliten boards are all about the children.  The red bulliten board will be used to display student work.  The blue bulliten board will be used for our Star Student of the Month.  Lastly, the orange bulliten board will be used for our CARE Postive Behavior Program.  Each week the students who earned CARE tickets will record them on this chart.  Once the student has reached 6 stickers in a category, they will earn a special certificate!

We are WISE Learners in our classroom!

This is our classroom Word Wall.  Each week the students will be learning 3 new sight words.  These are words that the children should be able to read and spell automatically.  At the end of the week the 3 sight words will be posted on the mirror under the corresponding letter.  This is a great resource that the kids have in the classroom to help them in their writing.

This is the front display of our classroom.  We have learning charts, our daily schedule, our birthday wall, and more!

This is our Daily 5 Tree.  The Daily 5 is a Reading Program that I will be using when the students have English.  Each day the students will complete 5 different stations.  These stations include the following: Word Work (Spelling), Listen to Reading, Read to Someone, Read to Self, and Work on Writing.  I believe that following the Daily 5 will insure your child to reach their potential.

Ms. Burnell's desk: Where all the time and planning occurs!

This is just a "tease" of what our reading room looks like.  I still have a few more things I would like to add to it, so come on by and check it out for yourself!

This is our "Helping Hands Tree".  Each student will be responsible for a classroom job.  For example, a Line Leader, Lunch Helper, Teacher's Assistant, etc.  Every 2 weeks the students will be assigned to a new classroom job.  The purpose of the "Helping Hands Tree" is to promote and teach responsiblity to the children.  Students will be able to earn CARE tickets when remembering to complete their job daily.
